Crysis Warhead

Eversince my old PC died, and I got a new AMD system, I’ve still been playing old games which I already have. Most of the time I’m just comparing and marvelling at how this “budget PC” is on-par or outperforming my now-dead “top of the line” gaming PC back in 2003 when I bought it.

However, recently I got Crysis Warhead, and this is the first “new game” I have loaded onto my new PC. I have played Crysis on my older PC (and also on my new one) and the performance and graphics difference is very noticeable – The graphics are better on the new PC!

Now that Crysis Warhead was out, I loaded it up and gave it a spin on the new PC.

First of all, the game auto-detected the settings to be “mainstream”, which if mapped to the older Crysis game, would be “medium”. I did tweak a couple of the options higher though, and dropped 1 or 2 of them down to “minimum” (stuff that I won’t notice).

End result is, Crysis Warhead is pretty playable even on my new budget PC.

Crysis Warhead is not a sequel, technically. The story takes place at the same time as the original. This time you are playing Psycho, and doing the stuff and missions while Nomad was doing his thing back in Crysis. If you had played Crysis, you’d remember that Psycho had disappeared off a couple of times on his own, only to re-appear at key points in the story to assist you.

Crysis Warhead, I suppose, is the story of what Psycho was doing while he wasn’t with Nomad.

In the video clip above, it shows the part where Psycho had to take out a propaganda outpost on the beach. Video was captured using Xfire built-in video capture.

I’ve only gotten about an hour or so into the game, and so far what I can say is that it’s an enjoyable shooter. One thing I’m sorely missing out on is the rocket launcher. However, Crysis Warhead has new weapons for you – Anti-Tank mines, claymores and so on. For example, I had to take out an armoured vehicle in the game, and since I had not found a rocket launcher yet, I used the anti-tank mines and placed it on the road while cloaked. Result is that when the armoured vehicle rolled over the mine, it was destroyed. Same effect, just different method.

I just hope that Crysis Warhead will be longer than Crysis, and according to my Xfire statistics, it took me 22 hours to complete Crysis.

Coming Soon – Mass Effect Movie!

Yet another game has leapt from the computer screens to the silver screen. Well, it still hasn’t happened yet. The rights have been bought, and plans underway, but no real shooting schedules yet.

This is similar to what was announced for Bioshock not that long ago too – that a movie may be coming soon for that one too. Now, if Bioshock was ever released as a movie, I doubt I’d go see it – I don’t watch horror films, and Bioshock is a horror FPS. I know I’m strange like that. I can play horror games, but I can’t watch horror films.

With Mass Effect, I hope they don’t mess it up like they did with Doom the movie. Maybe this time they’ll stick closer to the storyline and not take too much artistic licenses. I really wanna see who they cast as Shepard, and what his/her first name will be 🙂

TES4 – Corrupt Watchman Captain

Eversince I got this new PC I have been installing all my older games back into the PC and just having a go at them and trying to see if there are any visual improvements. One of these is Oblivion.

Starting a new character, I just ran around and played the game “normally”. Oblivion is smoother, and graphics details are higher as compared to the older PC (of course). I am constantly amazed at how my new, budget PC, is outperforming my older “top of the line” one. Oblivion auto-detected my settings as “high” as compared to the older PC, where it was generally “Medium”. This time on this new PC, I even turned up some of the graphics detail just to see how far I can go without bogging the PC down. Yes, I could turn up plenty of the details.

In all my previous playthroughs of Oblivion, I did complete the “Corrupt Watchmen” quest while in the market district in the Imperial City. However, this time around, I was physically around to see the actual arrest in action. I made a video capture of it here.

It does seem that the Radiant AI is pretty good in Oblivion after all, even after a couple of years (Oblivion was released in 2006 if I remembered right).
