Barren Weekend

Well there goes another week without me playing any game (damn is this going to be new the story of my life?). I couldn’t believe it – the only thing I played this whole week was the Call of Duty 4 Demo, and that was IT!

Ahh I could remember the days when I would be stuck forever at the PC, completing “just one more quest” before I go to bed. Or before I go eat lunch.

Back then, games gripped me. I just couldn’t tear myself away from them.

Now? Something’s happened to me… I’m more pre-occupied with getting my domain up (oh yeah I bought a domain on the spur-of-the-moment) and now, I’m seriously thinking about doing something I have thought about back in 2004 – re-doing my website up with new templates.

As of right now, there’s nothing much to look forward to except Crysis and Call of Duty 4. Geesh, and I still haven’t finished Bioshock yet!

Ok I better get off blogging and start on Bioshock….

Call Of Duty 4 In Game Video

Ok guys as promised. Here’s a video snippet of the action in Call Of Duty 4 demo. As I said, it’s so atmospheric, you could almost swear you’re really there…

Look closely at how your AI companions move… totally believeable!

Um yeah, I got caught by a grenade at the end, but hey, I just wanted to make a video snippet of the action to show you guys how it’s like in the game.

Remember, my PC isn’t cutting edge – it’s 4 yrs old. If I can play this on the “normal” settings at 1280×1024, you can too, especially if your rigs are more updated than mine.

Call Of Duty 4 – First Impressions

Well I got the demo (yes, all 1.4GB of it). I installed it, and the first words outta my mouth were:

“You gotta be kidding me!”

Why?

Ok first, my PC isn’t exactly state of the art. It’s actually 4 years old or so, running only on a P4 3.0Ghz SINGLE CPU. None of those dual-core stuff people are using nowadays. Secondly, my graphics capabilities are only AGP, so the fastest GPU I can get for my rig is the nVidia 7600 GT, considered obsolete and “previous generation” by today’s standards. Also, I decided to run this game at my monitor’s native resolution – 1280 x 1024. Normally, modern games would start to get jerky because the graphics card needs to be pumping more data to fill the screen.

But, COD4 works surprisingly well on it! Hardly any lag at all when running and jumping around.

So, anyway, I started the thing up. I’m thrown right smack into the middle of a crisis – a friendly tank is stuck, and we’re (my platoon and I, I guess) gonna have to rescue it. Right then and there, you get orders being barked at you, your platoon mates shouting “Enemy left, lay down suppressing fire!” etc.

It totally, TOTALLY, sets up the mood for this game. I thought GRAW2 was good… but COD4 is BETTER! The AI of your platoon mates is believeable too – they duck, the run, they shoot back etc… things you’d normally expect a real human being to do under extreme fire from enemy forces.

I’m going to set up FRAPS and record a snippet of the action for you guys to see in the next blog post…
