Ok, I downloaded the demo, played it, loved it, bought the real thing (See? Not everybody using Bittorrent to download stuff is a scumbag!)
However, before I actually plunked cash down for it, I did a little research on the net first. I don’t wanna be caught with a dead server and I can’t activate a game I paid for. Thankfully, the teething problems appear to have been solved. I activated my Bioshock without a hitch. It’s shades better than the Half-Life 2 fiasco though – I didn’t have to download a huge “activation file” and wait over an hour for an overloaded server to send it across.
Yeah, I’m one of those “genuine customers” that usually get screwed over by stupid copy-protection schemes. As long as Bioshock doesn’t use Starforce, I’m fine. I absolutely hate Starforce. It’s sad that if I wanted a “clean” game, I’d have to look for pirated versions. Genuine, retail versions of the games I own always install some sort of copy-protection which eats into system resources 🙁
Anyway, my install done and over with, the first word outta my mouth was – “WOW!”. The game is simply gorgeous. Beautiful, eerie, frightening, and addictive all at the same time. I haven’t felt like this since… Oblivion I dare say! Even on my almost-4-year-old single-core PC, it still runs reasonably smooth at 1024×768, with most graphic options turned on at HIGH. I’m betting that if I lower the graphics, it would run better.
In my 5 hours so far with it, I haven’t yet run across any bugs. I’m actually amazed that the game came out with the quality it did. I’m not saying it doesn’t have bugs, all programs do. I’m just saying that if it does have bugs, the number of them must be amazingly small.
Next post I should have some screenshots up, or maybe even a short video clip of a game session… 🙂
