I just got the bug again – to go back into the world of Tamriel, into Cyrodiil.
I have already “beaten” the game with my first character. He was a Nord, and as expected, I played a predominantly melee char, decked out in full daedric armour, fully enchanted. Level 41 was the highest level I could get him too. No matter how much I try to raise his skills, I can’t make the experience bar move anymore. He was a mish-mash of skills – primarily a tank, with some smattering of magic. In fact he only ever uses his magic heals after fights, and sometimes some fortification magics before a fight. Most of the time, he just smashes and slashes his way through enemies, with the help of a heap of heal potions.
This time around I created a wood-elf (”Bosmer”), as they seemed the most suited for stealth-type activities. In my mind I wanted to play a Ninja-like character, an assassin. Thus, this time around I didn’t waste time exploring ruins and caves and such. I immediately looked for opportunities to join the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood at the earliest possible time. I entered Thieves Guild at level 2, and Dark Brotherhood at level 4. The Dark Brotherhood has a nice set of light leather armour suitable for a “ninja”, replete with hood. The only item left to complete the outfit is now an Akiviri sword, which looks like a Samurai sword in the game. I know, a real ninja uses a Katana, which is technically a short-sword. However I haven’t come across any sword in-game that looks like that.
This time around I’m going to “role-play” it. He’s not going to upgrade to glass armour (best light armour in game) nor carry a shield (which would help in blocking and reducing damage). He won’t upgrade his sword too, once he gets the Akiviri blade. The Akiviri blade is given by Jauffre once you get Martin Septim back from Kvatch and they all head into the mountain sanctuary (I forget its name now. It’s been a couple of months since I beat the game).
Yes, this guy will be a ninja. He won’t be joining Mages Guild to get the quests. He is, however, in the Fighters Guild, to earn some income. I also won’t be getting him into the “Knights Of The White Stallion” order too, because it doesn’t fit his character.
That’s right, he’s going to be skulking around in the shadows and killing people. And he’s going to go into disguise in the daytime. I will need to get him a new set of clothes – street clothes. He needs to walk around in the day without his arrows on his back too, and that’s the limitation of the game. Once you swap your bow out, your arrows still stay on your back.
