Image via WikipediaI am still kinda glued to Assassin’s Creed right now, which is pretty weird considering that it runs very slow on my system and also that it takes ages just to complete a round of “invesigations”. Yet I’m still willing to put up with all of these problems.
Anyway! I was just messing around and surfing all over the place when I ran across this video on Vimeo.
At first glance it looks…. normal. If you have a Wii, it’s nothing new to you.
Well not quite.
With AirStrike, you literally hold NOTHING. You just move your arms/hands or whatever. The receiver (from what I can gather) is positioned at some place where the beams can bounce off your hands and correlate it to the position on the screen.
So what has this got to do with gaming?
This could be a whole new way of controlling the game! Just like how TrackIR could track your head (if you had a reflective dot, or wore something with that reflective dot, on your head) movements and thus gave you more situational awareness in flight sims, this new AirStrike could pave the way for a whole new way of miceless, controller-less operation of PC and games!
Think about it. If you get a sports title, like Tennis, you could actually be swinging your arm to hit the ball on the screen! Or if you had a golfing game, or a squash game etc. It’s Virtual Reality technology taking one more step forward. We are now closer to the sci-fi world as shown in the movies!
Man I sure hope I won’t get tired out mid-way through playing an FPS on one of these controller-less PCs! I’d be so tired jumping and ducking and crouching….
