Well I got the demo (yes, all 1.4GB of it). I installed it, and the first words outta my mouth were:
“You gotta be kidding me!”
Why?
Ok first, my PC isn’t exactly state of the art. It’s actually 4 years old or so, running only on a P4 3.0Ghz SINGLE CPU. None of those dual-core stuff people are using nowadays. Secondly, my graphics capabilities are only AGP, so the fastest GPU I can get for my rig is the nVidia 7600 GT, considered obsolete and “previous generation” by today’s standards. Also, I decided to run this game at my monitor’s native resolution – 1280 x 1024. Normally, modern games would start to get jerky because the graphics card needs to be pumping more data to fill the screen.
But, COD4 works surprisingly well on it! Hardly any lag at all when running and jumping around.
So, anyway, I started the thing up. I’m thrown right smack into the middle of a crisis – a friendly tank is stuck, and we’re (my platoon and I, I guess) gonna have to rescue it. Right then and there, you get orders being barked at you, your platoon mates shouting “Enemy left, lay down suppressing fire!” etc.
It totally, TOTALLY, sets up the mood for this game. I thought GRAW2 was good… but COD4 is BETTER! The AI of your platoon mates is believeable too – they duck, the run, they shoot back etc… things you’d normally expect a real human being to do under extreme fire from enemy forces.
I’m going to set up FRAPS and record a snippet of the action for you guys to see in the next blog post…
